In February 2021 we had a polar vortex. In Kentucky we had 3 successive snow/ice storms in one week. In Hastings, Nebraska, it got down to -30 degrees F.
But the real mayhem was in Texas:
- Kaeti’s neighbors left 2 small dogs on their back porch and went to Minnesota. It got down to 10 degrees. She had to drive over there twice daily in the ice and snow and take care of their animals. Their PVC pipes and well are trashed/frozen.
- Kaeti’s dog Dexter had to be put down because of pneumonia and she lost 3 days of sleep.
- Kaeti’s old 4020 tractor got a flat tire. The other tractor had gel in the diesel, but fixed it by draining the fuel filter.
- Texas had major power outages with rolling blackouts across the state, boil water advisory for 1/4 of the state, and some communities without any running water.
- Texas governor Abbott initially blamed green energy, people shared images of a frozen wind turbine taken in Sweden in 2014.
- Texas cut off natural gas supply to Mexico.
- No milk or dairy products or bread in stores, a line of over 100 people were trying to get in Seguin HEB.
- Ranchers leaving cattle out to starve, had no grass due to drought, hard to distribute hay with tractors frozen up.
- Ted Cruz went to Cancun to warm up.
- Rebecca’s CPA office had water damage to documents from burst pipes and their server went down due to blackouts, so she can’t work.
- The repairs weren’t done on Rebecca’s new house.
- The Texas grid operator ERCOT wasn’t prepared for any cold, powerplants froze, a total mess.
