•Southwestern Bell Telephone Company will begin pre-installing telephones in Cairo today as part of a better than $100,000 project, according to Claude Zwart, manager. Installation of the telephones is a step toward the extension of Moberly AMherst 3 telephone service to Cairo and surrounding areas. The construction of cable to Cairo will not be completed until next summer. The telephone company expects to add approximately 160 subscribers to the Moberly exchange with this project.

Saturday, August 26, 1961

•A “drive-up” telephone has been installed at 407 South Morley by the Southwestern Telephone Co., and is in use. Another one is being installed in front of Dorsey’s Cafe at the junction of Highway 24 and 63 and will be in service in the near future. Claude Zwart, local manager of the Moberly group of exchanges, said these are the first telephones of this type in the Moberly area and represent efforts by the company to give the public more and better service.
