Move to 1723 Courtney 4/13/2002

This is an excerpt from Steve’s journal detailing his move-out from Hillside Drive due to divorce.

Saturday was the big move day, I wasn’t sure Eric would be around, but he was. I picked up the U-haul 17′ Ford van and stopped at Kroger to get donuts and trash bags to throw my clothes in. It had started raining pretty hard. After some donuts job #1 was to move the 540 lb. Yamaha piano. We struggled some. Leaving Hillside, we went to Pieratt’s to get a washer/dryer, then Furniture World to get the sofa/loveseat. I was backing the truck up at Furniture World, the kids said “whoa” but I kept going and crunched a yellow concrete pole. Both boys laughed so hard they were almost rolling on the ground.

Then we went to Wendy’s and Oak Express to pick up a table and chairs. The boys rode in the back of the truck in the dark and made hyena noises when at intersections to impress onlookers. Eric stood on the dolly holding onto the side of the truck as I drove. I gassed it a few times and he had fun rolling around on the dolly.

Eric and Allen were very helpful. I got Eric to follow behind me on my Suzuki Intruder, and then we made another trip to retrieve the Volkswagen Passat. At 10pm I had to drive into work (IBM) to perform a subsystem device driver upgrade for chevron-phillips chemical and I spent the night at Bill’s, arriving at 12:15am. I had 3 beers and called it a night.
