Steve’s volunteer jobs

1978 – substitute church organist. Sometimes a paid gig. Once played at a Lutheran church where the service was in German, and was confused when to start playing hymns.

2003 to 2009 Volunteer driver for Kentucky Blood Center. Originally took this job working Tuesday nights so I would limit my habitual Tuesday Night beer consumption. I loaded igloo coolers in the back of a Toyota Matrix and made deliveries to the blood banks in local hospitals. It was great exercise and rewarding. I quit when I moved to Virginia.

2012 to 2014 Volunteer driver for Ronald McDonald House. This involved driving families who had children in the neonatal intensive care unit at UK hospital. Many of those having children aren’t suitable parent material, and I was rather discouraged.

2020 Meals on Wheels delivery. Those receiving meals really need them and are very sweet. The staff at Trinity Baptist Church are very kind.
