Steve’s Summers: 1975 and 2020

I find some interesting parallels between the summers of 1975 and 2020, which are 45 years apart. The common thread is that I have little responsibility and low stress in both of these summers, which is enjoyable and I know it is an uncommon gift.

Wake up and have coffee – Mom would
have made it. I take it with milk.
Wake up and make coffee. I drink it black.
Go to Darryl Duesenberg’s on the Schwinn
10-speed bike. Ride to tennis courts.
Warm-up with a cigarette and play tennis
with Darryl for an hour. Return home and
take a shower.
Check news and email on the Chromebox.
Lift weights, take 2 or 3-mile jog,
take a shower.
Ride the bike to Craig and Chuck Bohn’s
on Raleigh drive, 3 miles. Select a package
of hamburger to thaw for grilling. Take
a swim in their pool.
Take a motorcycle ride on Versys 650 or visit
a friend. Sometimes just a bicycle ride.
Tend to yard and garden.
Listen to music, grill burgers, eat,
and smoke cigs with the Bohn’s.
Check on investments, take a 30-minute
nap. Play some piano.
Ride the bicycle home and cook dinner
for the family. Practice piano (maybe).
Make dinner. If a beer night, have
some beers and make some calls.
Have dinner with the familyHave dinner solo
