Steve heard an interesting story on how a woman’s parents met.
The year was about 1967, the setting is Kentucky Eastern State Hospital in Lexington, which is the second oldest psychiatric hospital in the US.
Her mother was a nursing student, performing practicum at Eastern State.
Her father was an orderly at Eastern State.
The nursing student was attending to an adult male patient when he started hitting her on the head with a Taster’s Choice glass instant coffee jar. Distressed, she cried out for help. The orderly ran up to them and halted the coffee jar attack. But immediately after, the patient bit the orderly on the nipple and it was a great struggle to get the patient to stop.
That was the first meeting of the nurse and the orderly, and they married and had children. Although the woman didn’t tell me this, I thought it could be a story of “love at first bite”.
