
Marnis Ellen Grothen (Zwart, Dietz) 4/12/1937 – 1/15/2009
Marnis Ellen Dietz, age 71 of Seguin, was called to her eternal home on Thursday, January 15, 2009 due to a struggle with Multiple Systems Atrophy. Memorial service will be held on Tuesday, January 20, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church with Rev. Rob Sandley officiating. Private interment will follow at a later time. Marni was born on April 12, 1937 in Hastings, Nebraska to George and Irma Toepfer Grothen. She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Hastings College in Hastings, Nebraska. Marni married Claude Zwart, Jr. of St. Louis Missouri in September 1958 and had three children. Her greatest joy was being a mother to guide her three children and prepare them for life with a loving hand. She was a strong lifelong Christian and was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Seguin. Marni married Joseph Dietz of San Antonio, Texas in August, 1982. She served as church choir director and organist and was an accomplished musician. She taught grade school and high school in both St. Louis and Seguin. She enjoyed working at Beall’s in Seguin. She loved traveling and visited Europe three times. Energetic and versatile she enjoyed teaching, cooking, crafts, home remodeling, ranching and being a master seamstress. Her husband, Joseph Dietz, her beloved father, George Grothen and her dear sister, Elayne Bunch preceded her in death. Survivors include her children, Scott Zwart and wife, Luanne of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Steve Zwart of Lexington, Kentucky and Catherine (Kaeti) Stanley and husband, John of Stockdale, Texas; mother, Irma Grothen of Hastings, Nebraska; brother, Conrad Grothen of Hastings, Nebraska; grandchildren, Eric Zwart and Allen Zwart, of Lexington, Kentucky and John Stanley, IV and Rebecca Stanley of Stockdale, Texas; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. The family would like to thank the entire staff of Hacienda Oaks for their loving care of Marni.
