Steve’s 50th birthday

9/6/2010
I passed my AIX 6.1 certification test with 90% thanks to Matt T. and his test prep. Kentucky wouldn’t re-tag my cars. Saturday I got a Virginia driver’s license and went car shopping in Salem, VA. I was looking for a new sedan with 6-speed manual trans. I drove a Mazda 6. Kind of plain and a bit chintzy. “Biscuit” the salesman got me to drive a 2010 Mustang V6 5 speed. I really liked the torque. I bought a blue one and can appreciate the styling and paint.

Traded in both 1999 Passat and 1999 Miata so the dealership could handle the out of state paperwork. Passat was a fine car. 34 mpg highway. I could drive it 95 mph on 8 year old Michelin tires and the steering wheel was steady as a rock. But I didn’t have faith driving it from Kentucky at 8pm Sunday night in the remote parts of West Virginia. And the Miata had a battery short and 3 check engine light codes.

I did 30 push-ups and took a 2.5 mile run outside, beautiful weather. I haven’t been sleeping very well, and about 190 lbs. Last weekend, I went to KY and had a porch party just like the old days. Dave H, Marie, and Gerald were there. We had a charcoal BBQ. Then I took Eric, Allen, and the girls to Ramsey’s the next night. Allen better get engaged soon.

Tomorrow, I’ll be 50. Some days at work I feel old and tired as shit. When I got the Mustang I was getting a headache. Maybe if I take care of myself with less cigs and beer I’ll do better. I’m just glad I’ve got myself settled in finances and don’t necessarily have to bust my ass like everybody else.

9/12 Did some heavy partying on the birthday with Matt and the neighbors, up ’til 1am on a work night. The day after OK, but dragging the next. Scott and Kaeti called me. Work’s been boring and haven’t done much the last 2 weeks, but I sure look busy. Been emailing a 39 yr old Kelli. Haven’t been out on a date yet in the Mustang. Cousin Robyn says I shouldn’t be in a rush.

Watched car races, Fernando Alonso won Monza for Ferrari. I’m not too excited by sports these days. On to the rec center for a workout.
